Believe it or not, washing your hands frequently can help decrease your risk of picking up viruses and other germs. Many doctors advise their patients to wash their hands after any human contact, and after using the restroom. Most of us do know that this is basically common sense, but it is still one of the most important things you can do to try avoid getting sick.
This tip can be a little bit tricky, especially if you are living with one or more people that are currently sick. If this is the situation, then doctors would advise you to try and stay away from them as much as possible, and definitely avoid any contact like touching or kissing. This can be especially difficult if you are a parent or a spouse, but trust me, you don’t want to end up catching what they have, do you?
This is definitely another tip that ranks towards the top when it comes to staying healthy, and most health professionals will also agree. If you eat out a lot, or you run to McDonalds every chance you get, well you should definitely cut back. Fast food restaurants serve very unhealthy food which can also lead to a host of other problems later on in life if you frequent these kinds of establishments. Next time you get a craving for a Big Mac, or a McChicken, calm down, and try going for a salad and some fresh fruit instead. If you get into this habit you can not only lower your risk of heart disease, but fruits and vegetables are known anti-oxidants that can help build up your immune system.
Drinking Alcohol actually decreases the effectiveness of your immune system, and if you drink it habitually over time, you can actually end up going into liver failure, not to mention being more susceptible to a number of different cancers. If you are going to drink, please drink moderately and responsibly, and definitely do not drink on a daily basis.
Our final tip of the day is one that everyone wants to do, but few ever actually take the time to make it a lifestyle choice, and that is exercise. Exercising can help strengthen your immune system as well, and many studies have shown it actually contributes to keeping your body in a healthy state. If you don’t have time, we suggest you make time, especially if you live a sedentary lifestyle. Make the change, live longer, stay healthy. Until next week, take care!
